I ministered in a youth ministry that experienced nothing short of a move of God. The youth program tripled in size in a few months and with attendance exceeding 200 grew larger than the mid week service. The majority of that growth came from youth from church families who did not previously attend the youth service or kids brought by youth from the church.

In all that growth I cannot think of a single family that joined the church as a result. In fact, several families looked at it as a time when they would not have to watch the kids mid week and would do other things.

I would never minimize the growth of the Kingdom through the many salvations I saw but it was certainly no church growth strategy. In fact when the church budget got tight the youth budget was axed.

Agreement. I have always seen youth programs as welfare programs. They expend a great deal of money and the kids and their parents if they do come rarely pony up enough time and money to make the ministry viable.

Flipside, youth is the time in a person's life when a person can be discipled with significance. it is the moment of time when most folks come to know Christ. It may not take root for a few years, but it is a seed that is planted and begins germination.
